A Sewer and Drain Marketing Plan That Books Real Jobs, Not Just Calls
By Mike Rhoads, Founder, NorthRidge Systems™·July 27, 2026
Most sewer and drain marketing advice was written for general contractors or big HVAC shops. This is the plan a residential sewer and drain owner should actually run in 2026.
Step 1: Plug the leaks before you spend a dollar
The biggest marketing win in sewer and drain is not a new campaign. It is answering every call. If your shop misses 20 percent of inbound calls, no marketing campaign will out earn turning that number to zero.
Start with AI answering, then spend on ads. Not the other way around.
Step 2: Own your Google Business Profile
The homeowner with a backup is picking from the three shops on the Google map. Photos, reviews, response time, and category accuracy decide who wins.
- ·Post real job photos every week, blurred plates and faces.
- ·Ask every closed customer for a review the same day.
- ·Reply to every review, five stars or one, in the owner's voice.
Step 3: Run Local Services Ads before Google Ads
LSAs charge you per booked lead, not per click, and they show above regular ads. For most residential sewer and drain shops, LSAs beat Google Ads on cost per booked job.
Start with LSAs. Layer Google Ads only after the LSA queue is full.
Step 4: Build the referral loop with agents and restoration companies
Real estate agents need pre sale sewer scopes. Restoration companies need cameras before they start demo. Plumbers who do not run cameras need a partner to send the work to.
Three or four solid referral partners can add a truck's worth of work with no ad spend.
Step 5: Turn every camera run into marketing content
The single most persuasive marketing you have is the video from a real customer's sewer line. Short clips with a plain English explanation of what the homeowner is seeing outperform any ad you can buy.
Post them to Google Business Profile, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Reels. It costs nothing.
Step 6: Track marketing to booked revenue, not calls
If you only track how many times the phone rings, you will never know what is really working. Track lead source to booked job. FieldMetrx™ ties every booking back to its source so the picture is honest.

Frequently asked
How much should a sewer and drain shop spend on marketing?
Most healthy shops we see spend 3 to 8 percent of revenue on marketing, with LSAs and Google Business Profile carrying most of it.
Are Angi or HomeAdvisor worth it for sewer and drain?
Rarely. Homeowners on those platforms are shopping on price. LSAs and Google Business Profile bring in higher intent, higher ticket jobs.
Should I hire a plumbing marketing agency?
Only after you can prove the phone gets answered and the proposal closes. Otherwise you pay an agency to fill a leaky bucket.
